The Setup Process - OS Installation
Now we get to the fun part. For my installation, I used DR-DOS 7.03 Lite as my OS of choice. Before I go any further though, I would like to remind you that all of these files are in my download section. The setup procedures below are for the Lite version. The full version has Netware networking built in and there may be more to the setup program than what I have documented.
After downloading the diskettes, I booted Impee3 from boot disk #1. I won't go into full detail on the setup because the program is fairly straight forward. I only hit one snag. You can't install DR-DOS on a FAT32 drive. When I booted up on the disk, it told me that I'd have to re-partition the disk to be compatible. The only way I could find a partition that would work was to enter into expert mode by typing in:

fdisk /x

at the command prompt. Weird. I scrolled through the many different types of partitions that were available to me. This is a nice version of FDISK that seems like it would be useful when installing any OS. I finally came across one called something like, "DR-DOS protected FAT-32." It was a ways down the list. I tried it and it worked! Kick ass.
I finished installing DR-DOS and finally ended up at the command prompt. It booted in about 2 seconds faster than MSDOS 7.1. After playing with it for a while, I discovered that it's almost identical to MSDOS. It even runs MSDOS programs, only faster. What more could I ask for?
